GIS II Lab 3: Geodatabase Schema

Purpose: to create a geodatabase schema for the final project of Geographic Information Systems II to be used for individual, state, research or educational purposes involving the Matanuska River in South Central Alaska.
Methods: To create a geodatabase schema, ArcCatalog was the program used. The first step was to create several geodatabases using file geodatabase. Those included Cities, River, Roads, and State. In the Cities geodatabase, two feature classes were added, which included mv_cities_pt and Sutton. In the River geodatabase two feature classes were added which included Matanuska_Single_Line_Hydro and mv_major_river_In. For the Roads geodatabase two feature classes were added which include Glenn_Highway and mv_infra_road_IN. The State geodatabase includes three geodatabase feature classes which include Alaska, counties, and the MatanuskaBoroughboundary.  The feature classes were included because they all share a common coordinate system of nad1983_13N, and are related to the geodatabase. For example, mv_cities_pt and Sutton are similar to the Cities geodatabase.
Topology was not included because it was not needed to be used. Annotations will be included at a later date because some of the labels are not accurate. Metadata will be used for feature classes of Glenn Highway, States, and Sutton. The Roads were coded domains with values at local, highway, major.
The files for the geodatabase were obtained from http://www.asgdc.state.ak.us/
The photos that will be used for this project were incorporated into a raster database because they were already in a raster set. Those photos are 1949 ortho photograph,1960, 2006, and 2016.

The figures below are the results of the geodatabase schema.

Conclusion

The geodatabase created for the final project should be used for personal, educational, research, and other related purposes. Creating a geodatabase helps to organize files so that others may use it.
